Thousands of South Koreans brave the rain and gathered in central Seoul on 13 August to call on the South Korean government to suspend the Ulchi Freedom Shield joint military exercise with the U.S. due to start on 22 August. They also demanded the dissolution of the South Korean-U.S. alliance and the withdrawal of all U.S. forces.

Many South Koreans have always regarded those living in the North and South as one people and are in favour of eventual reunification. They oppose foreign interference in what they say is an internal matter to be resolved by Koreans.
