On 26 January, members of the Catalan parliament tore up pictures of the Spain’s king Felipe. It was a response to the arrest and charging of a number of people for the same act. Most Catalans don’t want the king and they want their independence from Spain. That is the reason why the various independence parties are dominant in the Catalan parliament. Making matters worse for the crown have been a number of corruption scandals involving members of the royal family. The question now is, how will the government in Madrid respond to this act?
